Jennifer Lopez made jaws hit the floor when she showed up for the Grammy Awards back in 2000. That infamous sheer Versace dress that barely protected her modesty is still considered one of her most daring fashion choices to date. So, whatever happened to that dress?

At the Grammy Awards in L.A. last February, presenter Jennifer Lopez was the night’s most memorable sight. Her chiffon Versace gown (complete with a built-in panty, seen above) not only launched a thousand quips–”It’s nice to see Jennifer in a classy little understated number,” said emcee Rosie O’Donnell–it inspired worldwide curiosity about the many uses of double-sided tape.
Jennifer reveals she still has the scandalous frock.
Recently, she told Harper’s Bazaar a funny story about her housekeeper bringing the dress out into the open and putting it on display in her home. The actress wasn’t exactly thrilled by the idea despite her current boyfriend, Casper Smart, giving his approval. As he aptly refers to it as “the most famous dress you’ve ever worn.”
The entertainer tells the mag:
“I have that at home. The other day, my housekeeper put it on a mannequin in my spa, where I get my hair and makeup done. She sent me a pictures. She was like, ‘You like this dress?’ Um, yeah, but I don’t know if I like it out in the house!”
Back then, that dress was cutting edge and certainly pushed the boundaries of what was considered appropriate attire for a public appearance.
Lopez’s tailor, Amy Brownson, insists that “it was just a really well-fitted dress. We just did some minor alterations to make it fit a little snugger,” she said. they used double-sided tape)) The long-sleeve dress with a below-the-waist plunge had a secret that made it stay put: built-in hot pants that acted as an anchor point. The dress was essentially a bodysuit with an attached skirt.
Today, the iconic dress would be rather average compared to some of the risqué attire celebrities don for red carpet walks.
